Reflections of a Powerful Teenager

Circles of Women South Cental was thrilled to host a new workshop called "Reclaiming Your Teenage Power" on Saturday, July 10th. This training provided women with an opportunity to take a walk back in time and revisit their teenage experience, and to explore and transform any wounds or false beliefs that may have developed in those important years. It was an incredible and illuminating journey for the 28 women who participated. Based on the common experience and feedback received afterwards, we are planning on holding this workshop again in the future. This workshop was developed and presented by Laurie Riedman from New York, and is used as a tool to prepare women and mentors who will participate in the Empowered Girls Alliance Program, however, any woman is welcome who would like to reconnect with her teenager. We were delighted to have three Empowered Girls, Danika, Daidre and Taylor, join us from the New York EGA Program to support and bless the women on their journey. The Empowered Girls also shared their perspective and teenage wisdom with us during Sunday's Mentor Training, which is required for all women who will mentor girls following the Texas Empowered Girls Weekend in September 2010. Having the opportunity to witness and hear the Empowered Girl's stories encouraged and inspired many of the women to say "YES" to serving as a mentor for a teen girl.

On Sunday evening an EGA Information Meeting was held to provide parents, friends and teen girls an opportunity to learn more about the EGA Program. The Empowered Girls shared their experience and stories with the teen guests, and provided a place for the girls to ask questions away from the adults. This structure was a success with the teen guests, and convinced many of them to register for the upcoming Empowered Girl Alliance Weekend.

The Texas EGA Weekend will be held on September 9-12th in Livingston, Texas. The weekend is limited to 16 girls and is filling up quickly. If you know a girl who would benefit from this experience, please register at www.circlesofwomen.com/en/cev/89
