The CWSC Board of Directors are seeking interested and qualified women to fill several board positions that will be available beginning April 2012. The following positions are available, and included below is a brief description of the responsibilites and duties of each role. Detailed Job Descriptions are available upon request.

DIRECTOR OF MARKETING

Monitor overall brand recognition and consistency, and regulate primary messaging and public relations
Coordinate and manage promotion and publicity of community events using a variety of venues (website, Facebook, Enews, printed materials)
Engage and inform board members and volunteers to ensure that community members are well-informed of all upcoming events and opportunities

DIRECTOR OF TECHNOLOGY

Maintain, update and manage the CWSC website (www.circlesofwomen.com)
Provide technical support for community members and Board of Directors
Create, update and monitor electronic forms on the CWSC website

VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR

Interacts with Board to identify and fulfill volunteer opportunities and needs
Manages volunteer program to recruit and find opportunities for an experienced pool of volunteers to support CWSC events and programs
Management of "Angels of Service" Award program, and recruits "ambassadors" to speak at Warrior/BTM graduations and other outreach venues as needed

We welcome any women who are interested in serving our community. All postions require a two-year commitment beginining April 2012, and attendance at monthly board meetings (usually the 2nd Thursday of each month). Mentoring is available for all board positions. 2011 Woman Within International Rose Award Recipients

Each year Woman Within International recognizes exceptional women in the community with the Rose Award. The Rose Award is an honor that has been given to less than 50 women over the past 20 years. Circles of Women was honored to celebrate our 2011 Rose Award recipients, Adrienne Wohn and Doris O'Brien, at our recent annual Share Our Blessings and Rose Award Dinner.

Adrienne Wohn

Adrienne Wohn attended her Woman Within Weekend (WWTW) in October of 1993 in Delavan, WI, and has remained closely connected to the Woman Within community ever since. She has staffed well over 50 weekends in many different roles, and served as a Team Leader for our region for the past 7 years. Adrienne is a generous leader and mentor, and recently supported two Team Leader in Training candidates with their training in our region. She served on the CWSC Board of Directors as Regional Liaison for 3 years, and remains as a source of support for women in the outlying areas of the CWSC community. Over the years, Adrienne has led Open Circles, One Day Staff Trainings, staffed WEW and the Empowered Girl Alliance Weekend and guided E-Circles in our community, as well as in the Woman-to-Woman Midwest region. She is a dedicated and devoted mother to her two sons, and is active in the PTA in her community, as well as providing foster care for homeless kittens through the Austin Humane Society. Adrienne is always quick to volunteer to help, and is admired for her caring, compassion and willingness to support women in whatever way is needed. Adrienne is truly a queen in her life, and reflects love, light and a warm smile to everyone she meets, and we are blessed and grateful to have her as a member of our community.

Doris O'Brien

Doris O'Brien has been a member of our community since attending her WWTW in November 1993 at Luther Hill in LaGrange, TX. She has a genuine dedication to this work and serving others, and has generously shared her gifts, facilitation skills and leadership with the Woman Within community. Having many, many years of experience as a Facilitator 3, Doris is valued and respected as a mentor by dozens of women coming up on the faciliation track over the years. She models compassion, integrity and grace, as well as providing safety and patience with women in the early steps of their journey. Doris has supported our region by serving on the CWSC Board of Directors as Events Coordinator and on the Wisdom Council, as well as serving on the CWSC Staffing Committee for the past 8 years. She continues to support the efforts of Woman Within International in her role as Certification Coordinator. Sharing her gift of teaching with others, she often volunteers to lead Practicums, One Day Staff Trainings, WEW and is a veteran presenter at Woman Within Level 2. In years past Doris has supported outreach WWTW's in both Colorado and Arizona. She is also active in sharing her time and gifts with the St. Anne's Guild, the Houston High School for Visual and Performing Arts, and is passionate about supporting our nation's vets by her participation in the Vets Journey Home Program. Doris has been a cornerstone in the foundation of this community for many years, has touched the lives of more women than most, and has freely shared her heart, her gifts and her wisdom with so many of us.

Congratulations again to both of these fabulous women. We appreciate you as women, and all that you do to make our community and the world a better place!

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR NEW LEADERS

The Circles of Women SC community is pleased to congratulate and celebrate three wonderful and wise queens who have recently achieved major milestones as leaders for Woman Within International. After the recent October WWTW, both Jeanine Baker and Suzanne Miller were “blessed” as certified Facilitators. Their journeys were a labor of love and perseverance for many years, required staffing dozens of weekends, and they graciously shared their gifts, talents and wisdom with hundreds of other women along the way. We are also excited to welcome JJ Lassberg as a new Team Leader for our region. Becoming a Team Leader requires a unique skill set, dedication, patience and a thorough understanding about every single aspect of the WWTW. Congratulations to Jeanine, Suzanne and JJ, and CWSC is truly blessed to have these women leading us into the future.

ARE YOU READY TO EXPLORE BECOMING A LEADER IN YOUR LIFE?

CWSC IS OFFERING FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR LEVEL 2

If you admire the leadership qualities, the confidence and the gold you see in women like Jeanine, Suzanne and JJ, please consider taking the next big step on your journey. Woman Within Level 2 is coming to Texas again on February 8-12, 2012. This dynamic 5-day workshop allows women to explore their castle once again, learn more about what drives you and what holds you back, as well as an opportunity to have some fun with your sisters. You will be surrounded and supported by powerful wise women as the staff is comprised of Weekend Leaders, Facilitators and Facilitators-in-Training. Completion of Woman Within Level 2 is a requirement to enter the facilitation track and the team-leading track.

The CWSC Board of Directors believes in providing opportunities for growth and will offer additional financial assistance to members of the CWSC community to attend the upcoming Level 2 leadership training. The cost of the workshop is $945.00 (includes program fee, lodging and meals). Circles of Women SC is providing (5) $200 scholarships for members of the CWSC community, and Woman Within Int’l is offering (7) $100 scholarships. These scholarship offers may not be combined, and will be given out on a first-come, first-serve basis to women who register and pay the required $200 deposit by December 15, 2011.

JESSICA YOUNG IN FULL BLOOM

The Circles of Women SC Board of Directors has created a recognition program known as the Angels of Service Volunteer Award. This award is presented quarterly to honor women in the community who have volunteered their time and gifts, and in doing so have enhanced the lives of others.

We are pleased to announce that the Board has chosen to honor and recognize Jessica Young as an Angel of Service Volunteer.

Jessica became actively involved with our community by staffing the first EGA Texas Weekend in 2010. She found passion and joy in participating in the EG Circles and in mentoring teen girls. As she has a natural comfort with the girls, she volunteered to be our first EGA Mentee Coordinator, and served as our EG Staff Coordinator on our recent EGA Texas Weekend.

After sitting in circles with Empowered Girls and women from our community for the past year, Jessica recently decided to give herself the gift of the Woman Within Weekend. Now she is blessed two times over to have the opportunity to sit in a sacred circle of women, as well as with the Empowered Girls and Mentors. Her mission carries over into her career as teacher with HISD and working with her students in the computer lab.

When Jessica walks into a room you feel like you found a long lost friend. Her authentic warmth and smile reflect her beautiful spirit that radiates from within. We appreciate the woman that you are Jessica, and all that you do to support our girls!

In years past we have given to local women's and children's organizations. Our goal for the coming year is to share the gift of the Woman Within Weekend and the Empowered Girl Alliance Weekend with a special group of women and girls who need a greater level of financial assistance to participate. We are currently reaching out to local organizations to find these women and girls who can benefit from this initiative. If your heart is connected to this work and our community, then please consider sharing this gift with another woman or girl who deserves this wonderful experience.

We would appreciate 100% participation from our community to support this new “Share Our Blessings” initiative. Large or small, every donation we receive will make a difference. In Honor of Connie Lawrence

Yet another Woman Within Light has departed the planet to become an angel among us. Connie Lawrence passed away Wednesday evening in her home. Connie did her Woman Within Weekend April 27, 2004. She attended various other Women Within Workshops. She also was in an Empowerment Circle.

Most recently she connected to 20 beautiful people, many of them from the Woman Within community and New Warriors through another program.

Connie was an exceptionally gifted artist with a palette of flowers. For many she years owned a floral business. She made other people happy by bringing color and beauty to their lives. She blessed her family with amazing mother energy and a big heart.

Connie also was a pioneer in most things she did. She participated in an experimental heart stem cell transplant procedure that will further the success of future recipients. Her life will live on in the hearts of all she touched.

A memorial service will be held in her honor on Monday, Sept. 5^that 4:00 pm at the Blossom Center, 5228 Blossom, 77007. Reception following.

Connie is survived by her daughter Shelda Keith-Magistri and her husband, Paul Magistri, grandson Bryce, sister Kay Vogel and brother-in-law Jan Christiansen, niece Julie Vogel, nephew Josh Vogel and wife Lauren and nephew Jannick Christiansen.

A memorial fund has been created in her honor benefiting The Empowered Girl Alliance:

The EGA Texas Weekend will be held on September 9-11, 2011.

We are ready to go but we need more participants for this weekend. Many of you have said you have a teen that will benefit from this weekend, but to date we only have 6 girls registered. We need a minimum of 6 more registered by August 15th. This is a call to action. If you know of girls who can benefit from attending this weekend, please encourage them and their families to register now. Financial assistance is available, and only $100 deposit is required to register.

We appreciate all of you who have applied to staff this weekend, and more staff is required. We need mentors for the girls who will attend this weekend. If you are interested in mentoring, and would like to staff this weekend, another mentor training will be held after the EGA Weekend. There are no requirements to staffing an EGA Weekend and you do not have to be a member of Woman Within. All women are welcome! If you or women you know are open to exploring the wonderful world of mentoring or serving as a support staff member, please send us your staff application today. In Memoriam – Joan Schwartz Spaw (1959 – 2011)

In Memoriam – Joan Schwartz Spaw (1959 – 2011)

We mourn the unexpected death of our dear friend and sister, Joan Schwartz Spaw, after a brief battle with cancer.

Joan attended her Woman Within Weekend in October 2004 at the CRC in Dickinson, Texas. She continued her journey of personal healing with participation in Women Empowering Women and Woman Within Level 2. Joan remained active in an E-Circle, and was a valued staff member on many Woman Within Weekends over the years.

Joan was well-respected in the Houston legal community, excelling as director of attorney employment, legal recruiter, and consultant. Like the many other lives she touched, Joan blessed and inspired us with her compassion, good humor, and her joy for life. Joan will be missed in the Circles of Women South Central community. She will always be remembered for her beautiful smile, her ability to light up a room and her generous and fun-loving nature.

Joan is survived by her beloved son Noah and husband David.

There will be a visitation in Houston on Monday, July 18th at George H. Lewis Funeral Home at 1010 Bering Drive, from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m.
A memorial service will be held in Joan’s honor at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church at 11612 Memorial Drive on Tuesday, July 19th at 2:00 p.m., with a reception to follow.
A visitation will also be held in Austin on Wednesday, July 20th at St. Stephens Episcopal School.

Warm Your Heart at the July Woman Within Training Weekend

We're inviting you to participate in the upcoming July Woman Within Training Weekend scheduled for Thursday, July 28^th to Sunday, July 31^st. It is our intention to have a full weekend to welcome Rhonda Gaughan, our Weekend Leader, back home to Texas. We need support from the entire community to make this a reality. If you have not staffed a weekend in a while... is it time for you to come back and support these participants, fill yourself up and have fun all at the same time?

Are there women in your life that can benefit from the weekend, but you just aren’t sure how to encourage them to give themselves the gift of the weekend? The Board has created a variety of opportunities for all of us to work together to reach our goal of a full weekend. Invite a Friend to Your E-Circle Night

We are asking established E-Circles to invite uninitiated women to their circle for one night and allow them to participate as another way of introducing them to this work, and allow them to experience what it feels like to sit in a sacred circle of women. We are not suggesting that you invite these women to be permanent members in your circle, or to make any “sales pitch” to them. This initiative is completely voluntary. We encourage each circle to facilitate this gathering in whatever way feels right for them, and challenge you to be authentic and do real, meaningful work with these women. If you have questions about this concept, please contact our E-Circle Coordinator, Gayle Jamail at ecircles@circlesofwomen.com.

If your circle chooses to host one of these events, please follow up with Gayle afterwards so that we can monitor the success, challenges and effect of these gatherings.

The Circles of Women SC Board of Directors are pleased to announce your newest incoming board members for 2011-2013. Stacy Lewis will be serving as our new Director of Fundraising, and brings enthusiasm, optimistic goals and fresh ideas to this position. We are delighted to welcome Victoria Hammel in the role of Regional Liaison. Victoria has served on the board of the WW Kentuckiana region in several positions over the years. She will provide much needed experience, wisdom and a new perspective in working to support and conduct outreach efforts with our sisters in other cities and states. Josey Duke will serve as our new Director of Technology. Josey is joining the board with years of experience that will further enhance our efforts to provide technology support to our community and members, as well as the maintenance of the CWSC website. And while not new to the Board, we are excited to announce that Carmen Arrata is stepping into the important task of serving as our incoming Vice-President. Having served on the board for the past 3 years as our Director of Technology, Carmen is ready and willing to take on this new challenge and serve our community in a new role of leadership.

The Board recently decided that a new position would be created to manage our efforts and the new committees needed to further develop the Empowered Girl Alliance Texas Program. We are pleased to welcome Jeanine Baker as our first EGA Liaison. We are all inspired by her dedication and passion about providing a space for girls to grow and to heal, as well as the blessings so many of us have received since bringing the EGA Program to our region.

As part of this transition, Jeanine Baker and Doris O’Brien will be retiring from their role of service on the CWSC Wisdom Council. The Board is eternally grateful for their time, gifts, and the wisdom that they have freely shared with us. They have provided a solid foundation to support the work of the board over the past 2 years. Both Jeanine and Doris will continue to serve the community in their roles on our Staffing Committee.

We would also like to honor and acknowledge the women who recently retired from the board after years of dedication and service to this community. Adrienne Wohn has served as our Regional Liaison for the past 3 years and will continue to serve as a contact for our members in the Austin area, as well as one of our veteran Team Leaders. Retiring from the role of Director of Fundraising is Jennifer Black. We feel confident that Jennifer will continue to be a leader in this region and share her amazing gifts with our region for years to come. Mary Jane Morgan has served on the board for over 4 years in the roles of Volunteer Coordinator and Vice President. Mary Jane is an amazing model of passion, wisdom and grace in action, and is the newest addition to our group of exceptional Team Leaders. Our heart-felt thanks goes out to each of these women for all that they have done to support our community, and will continue to do to support this work, and women everywhere. They have blessed us with their gifts, passion and time and we send them off with blessings of joy, peace and happiness.

The upcoming Woman Witin Weekend on April 29th-May 1st is fast approaching. Registrations will be open until April 20th and scholarships are still available. Reclaim Your Teenage Power & Empowered Girl Mentor Training Workshops

Personal Growth Experience & EGA Mentor Training

This experiential workshop is designed to allow women to visit their teenage experience and reclaim their power, beauty and grace. The 2-day non-residential workshop is a wonderful personal growth opportunity for any woman.

It is a pre-requisite for becoming an Empowered Girl Alliance mentor.

EGA’s main objective is to help girls identify false beliefs that they hold about themselves and then reflect for them the truth that each and every one of them is valuable, powerful, beautiful and graceful.

EGA believes that in order for women to help girls with this valuable work, we too need to go back and visit our own teenage selves and unravel and heal our false beliefs and wounds.

Please join us for this powerful workshop that will prepare you to step into one of the most significant roles you can play in your life – to mentor to a teenage girl!

DATE: Saturday, May 21st and Sunday, May 22nd

TIME: 9:00am – 5:00pm (both days)

Our dear friend Esther Robertson, Woman Within Facilitator, Weekend Leader and community builder has recently been diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer. She has undergone two surgeries and is awaiting the oncologists recommendation for her treatment plan.

Registrations are also being accepted for the upcoming Reclaiming Your Teenage Power and Mentor Training Workshops on May 21-22, 2011. EGA Perpetual Blessing Labyrinth

How might your life be different …

Without the women who have loved, supported, challenged, and mentored you? And what about the lives of the women you have touched? Empowered Girl Alliance is offering a “Perpetual Blessing” opportunity as a way of honoring the women in your life...grandmother, friend, daughter, sister, mother, aunt, teacher, mentee, guide, earth angel, partner, companion, wife, daughter-in-law, mother-in-law. How about counting yourself as one who makes a difference by purchasing a Perpetual Blessing Donor stone in your own name?

We have also chosen to include female animal spirits that are dearly loved. The warmth and love they have brought to our lives is also welcome in the circle (beloved pet, animal spirit, animal angel). Men are also invited to honor their female loved ones in this way. Participation is open to everyone so please share this invitation with your family and friends.

A beautiful labyrinth has been created and donated by Kay Vogel especially for the Empowered Girls Alliance Weekends. This labyrinth will travel from region to region welcoming the young girls who have embarked on their journey of discovery through EGA. As these teenager participants walk the labyrinth path on their weekend they will be surrounded and supported by the energy of women who have made a difference on this earth.

The path of the labyrinth consists of approximately 500 painted stones. For every donation of $35.00 per stone each one will be imprinted with the name and title (ie. mother, daughter, etc) of a special female you wish to honor. Your donations will go toward scholarships for girls who need financial assistance to attend the weekend, support of the year-long mentoring program, and for outreach efforts to share this experience with as many girls as we can. There are no limits to the number of stones you may wish to purchase, however, there are a finite number of stones and requests will be taken on a first come basis until all the spaces are filled.

This is a perpetual way to “pay it forward” and make a difference to young women you may never meet but who will be forever changed by their EGA experience.

In Honor of Dale Mabry

Although she had not been a member of our community for long, she was very active and enthusiastic about both the CWSC and the EGA programs. A few weeks ago, Dale was thrilled to learn that she was selected to be honored by the CWSC Board of Directors as the recipient of our Angels of Service Volunteer Award. Dale attended her WWTW in April 2010 in Livingston, TX, and recently returned there to staff her first WWTW a few weeks ago. She was very dedicated to the Empowered Girl Alliance community, and volunteered to serve as our region's first EGA CIrcle Coordinator. Dale was always quick to lend a helping hand and offered the gift of time, wisdom and support to so many in her own way. Her gentle spirit, smile and warmth will be greatly missed by the women and girls whose lives she touched during her short time with us.

There will be a celebration of Dale's life on Friday, March 4, 2011 at 3:00pm at:
