When I went to the weekend my heart was breaking as I watched my children leaving the nest. My identity was Mother. I found compassion, understanding and a new reason for being in the world. I found ME.

When I was twenty-eight, I bought a self-help book at a campus bookstore sale.  “Look at the patterns in your life,” said the author in the first chapter.  I couldn’t see any pattern.  My life seemed linear, orderly.  I had done what was expected of me: I had graduated with honors, married and birthed two children.  I worked full-time and made dinner every night and tended to my family.

My life looked picture-perfect.  But something was missing, nagging at me. I couldn’t figure out what it was.

It was another nine years before I attended the Woman Within training in February of 2000.  That weekend was my entry into true adulthood.  It was my first time to look deeply into my life and make decisions for myself.  It was scary at first.  As women, I believe we are often raised to put others before ourselves.  We aren’t used to claiming our time.  We let others decide what’s good for us.  Rarely if ever do we allow ourselves to stop the clock and toss our to-do list so we can connect with who we are.

I am still in the process of learning.  This is a life-long journey.  But the Woman Within weekend has provided me with the tools and insights I need to chart my own course.  It has also given me a community of women of all ages, ethnicity, professional, political and religious backgrounds who share the common goal of walking their path.

The WW weekend gave me an incredible experience of sisterhood. I felt I was coming home to a place of deep love and connection with other sisters on the journey of growth. The weekend experience awakened my spiritual connection with the feminine.

I had started my inner search and personal work years earlier and something was still missing in my life.  Then I heard of Women Within and came for my weekend, and have found on my journey in Women Within what I had been searching for.  I now lead an intentional life as a grounded, empowered woman, and recognize my wants and needs and honor all the strengths and skills I have.  This is present in my life because of Women Within".

My weekend experience at Woman Within was life changing for me. During my weekend, I found that “still small voice within.” I learned to recognize it, acknowledge it, listen to it & hear it for myself. I continue to learn more & more about myself as I travel my life’s journey.

I did my weekend at Luther Hill in January of 1995.  Participating in the weekend was a wonderful gift for my soul. 
Since the weekend, I have learned so much about how to do my life differently.  I am surrounded by supportive, empowering and nurturing women and I am eternally grateful for that.

 

Before, I didn't know safety amongst other people.  Now I have a safe, nurturing community, people with which I am authentic.  We laugh together and they hold me to standards. 

Finally, in middle age, I belong.

 

My experiences in life have been about my acceptance of letting myself be present for the multitude of turning points and physic changes that I have attracted to my life which included a trip to Dickenson, Texas.  Since that experience I have been able to transform the way that I connect and communicate with people that has opened up a whole new avenue of awareness in my life.

In October of 1992, near my 54th birthday, at a time in my life when I was looking for new spiritual and emotional direction, I attended my weekend in Wisconsin with a  group of Houston women who were among the seeds of the new Texas community.  Other seeds were staffing; 4 of the women,  known as Crones were leading our Weekend.  Since 1968, I had experienced  over 60  personal growth workshops, endured at least 40 sessions of different types of body work, and had spent more money than I care to total in different types of therapy.  In 2 days, all of those past endeavors seemed to gel for me.  Not only did I discover a magnificent community of women, I felt a 180 degree turn take place in me, spiritually and emotionally.  As soon as I returned home, I joined the Texas board, registered for every WW workshop I could find, stepped onto the Leadership track, and in 1996 became a Crone for Woman Within.  This work, the women involved, and the woman I discovered within myself have all enriched my life more than I can ever express.

After struggling with the decision to go on the Woman Within
weekend, I finally went. I am so thankful I decided to give that much needed
gift to myself. The weekend helped me to overcome personal obstacles and
become much more self-aware. The atmosphere was safe and welcoming
and I made many new friends. I would highly recommend it to anyone who
is open to growing and learning more about themselves. It was an awesome
experience I will never forget.

7/07 CRC Through my work with Woman Within, I continue to realize my power and how to use it for good not evil. Woman Within offers me a community of women who accept me unconditionally, teach me I am enough and encourage me to be my authentic self out in the world. The bottom line: Woman Within teaches me how to change my life.
